About this deal

Whether you are a ghost fanatic or simply piqued by curiosity, you’ll get a robust deep dive into the experiences of paranormal occurrences, alternative explanations for these occurrences, and our culture’s fascination with them. So as the days slowly start to get darker and because Halloween was just around the corner it seemed the perfect time to read this book. Whether you are a ghost fanatic or simply piqued by curiosity, you’ll get a robust deep dive into the experiences of paranormal occurrences, alternative explanations for these occurrences, and our culture’s fascination with them.

There is also a unique guide on the different types of ghost and yes there is more than one type of ghost which was news to me.This would make a fun gift for that friend that loves to watch unsolved mysteries or ghost hunter TV shows, or to those who are interested in dipping their toe into this area. Thank you so much to the publishers for providing me with an eArc of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Veterans who know Boardman's work will likely really enjoy this as it's clearly a good quality output, just not to my taste. My favourite thing about this book is that whilst it is marketed as adult fiction and was perfectly suitable for 20 year old me, my 17 year old brother (who normally has an aversion to reading) sat down with it for 45 minutes flickering through and having conversations with me about how certain elements matched his computer games or things he’d seen on tv and we really enjoyed flipping through the book together because of this vibrant, sectioned format. I jumped at the chance when I saw this on NetGalley as I love anything paranormal but unfortunately it wasn’t what I expected. Sometimes the formatting was hard to follow, some pages the information went across and others it went down the page. This amount includes seller specified domestic postage charges as well as applicable international postage, dispatch, and other fees.

I liked the illustrations of this book too, I think they went well with the overall presentation of the book. There were some instances of 'this may have been' and 'some historians believe' without clarity on who, and how credible, these opinions are. An Illustrated History of Ghosts is a non-fiction read that is packed full of much information that is presented in bite sized chunks.

I understand it's a short book, but some of the things mentioned are glossed over to the point it really wasn't worth including them.kind of reminded me of a grown up horrible histories style of book, the illustration style is fairly similar! The book begins with providing definitions for the terminology that is used in the book such as what a ghost is, the meanings of myths and legends. and the illustrations don't really get across the impact of some of the things we're reading about (such as ghost photos etc). To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. On a side note, this book debunks just about all the big ghost stories and shines light on what actually happened.
