About this deal

Alles in allem eine nette und kurzweilige Anthologie, welche Fans des WH40K Settings sicherlich unterhalten dürfte. Out of the 8 stories I liked the ones that stood out the best and that made this anthology worthwhile were: Honor Among Fiends, Fires of War, Labyrinth, Headhunted, And They Shall Know No Fear, and, One Hate(details on each in my updates). The characters are good, especially Chaplin Argo who is a nice departure from the usual fire and brimstone Chaplains that you usually get.

I do like that the main character is one of the potential recruits and the conflict within the Night Lords force is also nicely done. Heroes of the Space Marines is an anthology of stories about these brave champions and their dark counterparts, the Chaos Space Marines. If you read the Ultramarines omnibus then this book contains one story which is more ore less the introduction to possible sequel (The Skull Harvest).

This tale - don't know what it has to do with Heroes of Space Marines since it focus solely on chaos space marines and how they get more warriors under their belt. It features a prequel story to the Salamanders Series by Nick Kyme, a tie-in to the new Imperial Fists series by Chris Robertson, and new Deathwatch and Night Lords stories, and more. Perhaps to see if you might be interested I guess, in which case this is again a good place to start. This was my first warhammer 40k book, and the only real thing it made me think was "Why would anyone even like the space marines? However, many of the stories were a little disappointing for me, not really capturing the essence of the Adeptus Astartes. These specialists provide vital support as honour guards and aides – Company Champions defend their Chapter's honour with martial excellence, Ancients guard its inspirational banners, and Company Veterans lay down hails of fire from relic bolt weapons. Not too much to say, just some very fun action involving some rather brutal Black Templars and their friends in the Sisters.

The other stories, those tales of chaos marines or filler of the Salamanders were really well written, and interesting, but not what I expected in this collection. I enjoyed reading these short stories, you know what you are going to get with Warhammer 40,000 novels; lots of bloodshed and action. Renowned as some of the staunchest defenders of humanity, surely it is inconceivable that marines of the Crimson Fists Chapter would ever shrink from bringing death to the Emperor's enemies? It's funny reading work by someone I know: I could imagine him penning this between Berlitz lessons or after his usual Herculean training sessions, Tokyo's summer heat bursting from his shaven pate in thick runnels of sweat.

The Astartes are supposed to be the greatest embodiment of the Emperor's will, sworn to defend humanity at its darkest times. This anthology features an Ultramarines series tie-in by Graham McNeill featuring the Iron Warrior Honsou, a prequel story to the forthcoming Salamander series by Nick Kyme, a tie–in to the new Imperial Fists series by Chris Roberson and all–new Deathwatch and Night Lords stories, setting the stars ablaze with the fury of the Space Marines.

The sixth story in the book is `The Labyrinth' sees the renegade Sons of Malice Chapter perform their rituals in the bowels of a derelict ship. My only gripe is similar to those in other reviews of this book: Traitorous Chaos Marines are not heroes! Honsou is on New Badab in the heart of the Maelstrom with the intention to win the Skull Harvest, a contest between warbands where the champions of said warbands fight each other to determine which leader gets control of each other's men. Die Geschichten sind von unterschiedlicher Länge und Qualität aber ein Kauf lohnt sich definitv für alle die Marines mögen - ob nun die "guten" oder die "bösen".The Labyrinth' by Richard Ford - A group of the Sons Of Malice traitor marines undergo a test to join an elite group.
