About this deal

The description of the president of the United States is particularly entertaining, anachronistic as it may be. Ebooks fulfilled through Glose cannot be printed, downloaded as PDF, or read in other digital readers (like Kindle or Nook). As much as they try to escape (riding ostriches, rolling in giant transparent balls, running in the desert, or sliding in craters), Ruth, Spaceboy, and Yuri end up in a top-secret US military base, caught by the faceless figures who happen to be soldiers in special costumes. I also loved all the illustrations because they helped bring the story to life, especially the ones at the end.

It's the 1960's and space is a hot topic as the USA tries to copy their Russian rivals in the space race. And so, when a blazing flying saucer shoots across the sky one night, Ruth dashes out from behind her telescope to find out more.

The different fonts and sizes and sound effects are such a pain to read aloud and let's be honest are little more than padding. Some cultural stereotypes crop up as well which I believe Walliams has also been pulled up on in his World's Worst Children/Teachers books. With no one else around, Ruth rushes in to help, and unknowingly stumbles across a mystery that will take her on the greatest adventure of her life. This really sounds like the movie "Chicken Run": damsel in distress, "flying" boy who to the rescue -but is he really flying?
