Sadly a majority of your time will be spent falling in battle. Each time you die provides you with new insight and upgrades. Ranging from maximum health to damage buffs, these upgrades can turn the tides of battle in your favor. Akin to playing one last round in the Civilization series, each successful run makes it difficult to put the game down.
In terms of the VR experience, the Quest 2 comes very close to the Rift S, but with a much higher resolution (1,832 by 1,920 vs. 1,280 by 1,440). Its Snapdragon 865 processor is powerful enough that you can run plenty of games on the headset itself, like Beat Saber and Superhot VR. The Quest 2 runs into a performance wall when compared to Rift S' PC power, but again, that can be solved by buying an accessory cable. The Quest 2’s design allows for users to swap out the default fabric strap for a comfier alternative, and there’s a load of official and third-party options to choose from. This might be the most unconventional accessory on the list, but a VR-ready PC is truly one of the best (and most expensive) Oculus Quest 2 accessories you can buy. A VR-ready PC will allow you to play PC VR content (like Half-Life: Alyx and Skyrim VR) on your Oculus Quest or Quest 2 via USB on Oculus Link or wirelessly using Air Link or Virtual Desktop ( head here to find out how). The controllers merely rest in these slots as there’s no mechanism to charge them. What Anker does give you though, is rechargeable cells in the box. You can use these with the controller and manually charge them if they run out of juice.
The best budget VR headset.
The Meta Quest 2 improves upon its pricier predecessor in nearly every way, making it a top VR headset for newbies and experienced users alike. We’ve tried some lens protectors, like this one from Orzero, and found they work well on Quest 2 (and other headsets — the shape is pretty generic) to protect them from sunlight and dust.
As such, Meta’s now two-year-old hardware was always going to be outclassed. But Meta also hiked the price of its VR headset – making it more expensive than this new more powerful rival – while not giving it a performance upgrade. VR Cover has been around for some time and is known for making accessories designed to improve headset hygiene and comfort against the face. We’ve tested a fair few of their Quest-specific covers, straps and facial interface replacements in the past. Some staff members love the added comfort, while others don’t feel they made a huge difference. Picture a set of ski goggles but instead of miles of fresh powder, you're transported into space or underwater. All Oculus Quest and Quest 2 headsets include an audio system that releases sound from the head strap area, which works quite well as basic, ready-to-go solution. Still, a lot of detailed sounds are lost with this system. Did you know, for instance, there are ambient sounds in the home area of Oculus Quest? You might not hear that with the out-of-the-box audio experience on Quest. The lenses are one of the most vulnerable parts of the Quest headset — they can be permanently scratched and direct sunlight can be magnified through them, resulting in burnt screen pixels.

Comparing the Pico 4 – or any other next-gen VR headset – with the Oculus Quest 2 was always going to be an unfair fight. The charging stand from AMVR for the Meta Quest 2 has a slightly unique design. You get a single pedestal attached to a base which then branches out to give you slots to hang the controllers too. The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners is the Quest’s first AAA single-player game. This herculean effort combines a lengthy campaign, satisfying physics and realistic environments for an immersive horror experience. You’ll sneak, shoot and scavenge your way through a zombie-filled New Orleans with every major choice you make resulting in equally hefty consequences. Even though it’s now past its 10-year anniversary, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is still very much a game you should try in virtual reality. You’ll need to connect the Meta Quest 2 to a gaming PC or laptop, albeit not a hugely powerful one given the game’s age. And it’s not superbly optimized for cutting-edge VR use. However, Skyrim VR basically lets you step into a virtual country with a fantasy and Nordic flavor. While Skyrim is available on all manner of platforms, VR is arguably one of the newer and more interesting ways to experience the stellar open-world game. It also mixes up the playstyle of the game, with ‘realistic’ controls letting you slash away at draugrs and dragons by actually swinging your arm. And even with dated graphics by 2021 standards, there are still moments where Skyrim's art style and lighting present you with some beautiful vistas; perfect escapism from the rigors of real life. There is also mod support through the Steam Workshop, which adds yet another arrow into Skyrim's brimming quiver.
However, realistically any 2.0 or higher cable from a reliable brand should work fine, with 3.0 and above giving the best results. You may also need to buy a USB C to A adapter (which will also need to be USB 2.0 specification or higher) to plug the cable into your computer, depending on if it has a native USB-C port onboard. It’s impressive to see a game of this scale and design run so smoothly on the Quest 2’s mobile chip. On top of tight controls, immersive environments and a fun gameplay loop, developer BigBox VR is constantly rolling out live events to keep the game feeling fresh. Oculus VR has designed the Oculus Rift to be relatively simple to get up and running starting with connecting the headset to your PC and plugging it in. Since the Rift is already tethered to the control box with a 13-foot cable, your computer should automatically detect the Rift and install all drivers and accompanying software. Controller grips provide some extra protection for your Touch controllers. The grips pictured above are by Kiwi and actually replace Touch controller’s battery cover, forming a shell that sits across the face of the controller. Not only does this give you added protection, but it also adds on grips straps akin to those on the Valve Index controllers, so you can keep your controllers attached without gripping them the entire time.
VR Cover Accessories
Oculus recommends wiping the lenses down with a dry optical lens microfiber cloth, starting from the center of the lens and wiping gently in a circular motion outward. Facebook says alcohol-based wipes and cleaners are not recommended for use on the lenses, as they can lead to damage.
The Quest 2 doesn’t come with any form of portable storage for the headset. Given that you could easily damage the headset or scratch the exposed lenses, getting a case is an absolute must. The Climb is a breathtaking experience both visually and physically. If you’re looking for a physically challenging escape from the dreariness of the real world, chalk your hands up and grab on tight to The Climb.
Lens Cover
If you have a permanent spot in your house for your Quest 2, you’re going to need something to put it on. However, the facial interface replacements are the best option if you plan on exercising and getting sweaty in VR — you can easily swap the covers our when things get a bit slippery. With that in mind, even before looking at the differences between the headsets, we recommend the Quest 2 over the Rift S, because that's what Oculus will be developing from now on. That’s not to say that the Pico 4 doesn’t also boast some impressive games, but much of its existing library – and its most prominent upcoming titles like The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners Chapter 2 and The Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom – are available on the Quest 2. Though dance game fans among you will be excited to play the Pico 4 exclusive Just Dance when it launches in 2023, and it has been teased that other exclusive games are headed to the Pico 4 in the future.
